Untitled
Orwell

I was trying to think back to essays I’ve read recently for school to use as an example for this class.  However, I haven’t read any for my classes lately that are current, so I went to The New Yorker.

This feature fiction piece used conjunctions to begin sentences and ended sentences with prepositions, but on first glance, I didn’t see the use of any pretentios diction or dying metaphors.  Poor grammar perhaps, or sentence fragments for effect, but not any of the mistakes that break Orwell’s rules.  The New Yorker has a reputation to uphold, and they seem to think that writing that contains these mistakes is poor.
